03.01.2012My life has changed forever, for at 7:30pm EST I told my mom that I was Gay.  I literally remember it so vividly. My mom and I were traveling in California and this particular day, we decided to visit San Diego, CA. We visited Seaport Village, Mission Beach, as well as, the University of California San Diego. On the way home, I knew that we had a long drive back, we were both locked in the car, and this was a perfect opportunity to “rip off the bandaid” and tell her right then in there. My heart WAS beating out my chest, as I could see my shirt moving from my heart beats. The conversation went a little like this:Me: “Mom, do you love me?”Mom: “Why would you even question / ask that?”Me: “Well I have something to tell you.”Mom: “What’s that?”Me: “Mom, I’m gay.”Mom: “Okay.”Me: “Thats it?”Mom: “Is there something else you would like me to say?”Me: “Are you okay? Is this a shock?”Mom: “Straight, Gay, whatever, you’re my son. While growing up, I never thought I would have a gay son, but I’m your mother. I love you no matter what. I’m here to support you and love you.”After that we talked about my boyfriend, who I’ve been dating for almost 3 years now, she was just happy that I had someone to love and that loved me back. For those people that are scared, afraid, or feel alone. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Things do get better. People do change. There are always people out there to talk to.
